Planting Justice and the Insight Garden Program are fundraising to build a vegetable garden in the medium security unit at San Quentin State Prison! This garden will provide a space for men participating in the Insight Garden Program to gain hands-on experience growing nutritious organic food using permaculture design techniques. All harvests will be donated to low-income families in the Bay Area.

Please help us Spread The Word! Friendly Aquaponics has trained thousands of people at their certified organic commercial aquaponics farm in Hawaii, and now they're coming to Oakland to share their tried and true practices of growing an incredible amount of food in small spaces with 90% less water than conventional agriculture. Perfect for paved lots and urban agriculture where soils are nonexistent or too toxic! Hope to see you there. What you get: when you sign up for this benefit training, you will receive downloaded (only!) copies of our Micro System package ($99.95), TableTop Systems manual ($49.95), and Epoxy/Fiberglass/Plywood Tank Manual ($49.99), a total value of $199.89. You also get one day of live training with Susanne Friend and Tim Mann teaching aquaponics basics and small backyard aquaponics systems.
We are excited to announce the launch of Planting Justice's new Blog: Compost the Empire! We have spent the last few months working to build a shared space that we hope will serve as a repository for the food justice community. Members of the Planting Justice family, Food Justice organizations locally and nationally and members of our communty are welcomed to contribute! We plan to post instructional videos, permaculture techniques, interviews with clients, weekly columns, stories and poetry, cooking recipes and more! Compost the Empire blog has a built in community calendar and food justice forum. Please consider subscribing to the blog if you are interested in keeping up to date with the work PJ and others are doing in the food justice movement!
