Greywater Recycling

These pictures show a transformation of a backyard in the Fruitvale district of Oakland.  Most of the backyard is planted with perennial fruiting trees and shrubs, watered entirely from "waste" water recycled from inside the house.  Tens of thousands of gallons of water that would otherwise be runnind down the drain, from both the shower and the laundry machine, will soon be producing hundreds of pounds of delicious figs, apples, mulberries, cherries, peaches, pears, citrus, pineapple guavas, raspberries, boysenberries and more!

Contact us today if you are interested in having Planting Justice transform your yard into an urban oases watered with recycled greywater. Every home should be doing this!

1) Website announcement

Drumroll please!  Planting Justice’s brand new website is up, and it is beautiful!  Thank you to PJ board member and permaculture designer Andrew Chahrour, and our dear friend and tireless volunteer May Nguyen, for their truly stunning work. Check it out for comprehensive educational information about urban permaculture, for info about our exciting projects in the community, and to get involved.  www.plantingjustice.org

2) TYY pitch and seasonal specials (greywater); link to our greywater photostream

Planting Justice has hired its first crew of permaculture designers and landscapers, and our projects are making waves throughout Berkeley, Oakland, and Richmond.  Neighbors are literally lining up in astonishment to look at dazzling front yard mini-farms that had been ordinary lawns the day before. See pictures here!

Summer is around the corner, and the rain has stopped, so how about recycling your laundry and shower water and turning it into food, shade, and beauty?  We are offering specials on greywater installations this summer, so contact us to schedule a consultation today, and turn your waste into abundance!

3) Send us to the US Social Forum Detroit

Recently, Planting Justice has been asked to speak on a panel at the US Social Forum next week in Detroit!  But our young nonprofit isn’t in the position to pay $1000 to send Gavin and Haleh to Detroit.  The only way we’ll be able to go is if our supporters help us get there, in a last ditch effort.  Do you happen to have loads of frequent flyer miles (maybe they are expiring soon?) that you could donate to our 501c3 nonprofit in exchange for a tax write-off?  We’d be so grateful for allowing us to share our model with thousands of activists in Detroit, and to allow us to soak up the spirit and inspiration that will be bubbling over at the US Social Forum. Please contact us as soon as possible if you can help!
